Looking at the Patriots roster, which receiver will open eyes in the New York Giant’s preseason game? We all know who the locks at the top of the depth chart at the position will be Parker, Agholor, Bourne, and Meyers.

Now the question is, who will push to make the team and lock up the fifth spot and possibly the sixth spot on the roster? Who will quarterback Mac Jones throw to at the back end of the depth chart? Also, who will show the coaches they should stick around on the practice squad? This article will look at who could answer the call for the Patriots and step up to the challenge.

Two Wide Receivers Dazzling At Patriots Training Camp?

There is a lot of buzz around camp as a second-year wide receiver and rookie. Tyquan Thornton has had a strong offseason and summer camp. Nixon was a Seventh-round pick who was Coach Ernie Adams’s last pick before retiring, and he has risen to the occasion.

He met with quarterback Mac Jones in offseason workouts, then showed he has bulked up his frame and route running. As a result, he was one of the favorite targets in OTA’s, often on extended pass plays. I look forward to seeing him play Thursday against the Giants as he could break out and have a big game.

Next Rookie Tyquan Thornton after being selected in the second round, has put all the negativity around his size and frame to rest. He has shown his quickness and ability to catch the deep ball and adjust and catch the shorter routes. Coming across the middle of the field is something I didn’t expect to see out of Tyquan. Thornton should also have a productive game against the Giants, showing the Patriots he belongs.

Next Wave Of Patriots Receivers Who Could Impress.

Looking at the rest of the roster, we find players with an uphill battle to make the roster but could crack the practice squad. These players should see plenty of playing time in Thursday’s preseason game against the Giants. In addition, players such as Kristian Wilkerson had a breakout game against the Jaguars in week seventeen with 42 yards receiving and two touchdowns after being called up from the practice squad.

The final wide receivers are Lil ‘Jordon Humphrey, who played with the Saints the last three seasons. Humphrey’s size is intriguing at 6’4″, and coming out of college at Texas, he finished with solid numbers 86 catches with 1176 yards and nine touchdowns. However, after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Saints in 2019, he spent three seasons putting up only 295 yards on 18 receptions and three touchdowns. Finally, newly signed receiver Josh Hammond who spent time with the Jaguars and Eagles, should see plenty of action to show his skills.

In Conclusion

We should see plenty of work out of the younger wide receivers who could show they belong in this league on Thursday night’s first preseason game against the Giants. Players who should make the coaching staff think about carrying six wide receivers this season, such as Nixon and Thornton, need to step up and flash this week as Wilkerson and Lil’ Jordan Humphrey should have solid performances to compete for the practice squad with strong performances this week.
